IEEE 802.11be and tri-band Wi-Fi (2.4 + 5 + 6 GHz)
The main difference between the Slate 7 Pro and the regular Slate 7 is simultaneous operation across three bands, including 6 GHz. The new 6 GHz band offers more free spectrum, higher throughput and lower latency in congested radio environments. Slate 7 Pro works on the IEEE 802.11be standard with support for Multi-Link Operation (MLO), enhanced OFDMA, 4K QAM and preamble puncturing, combining the bands and keeping the connection stable even when a large number of devices are connected at once. We supply the European version (GL-BE10000-EU) with 6 GHz band settings for Europe. The router receives internet through the 2.5G WAN Ethernet port, over a wireless connection to an existing Wi-Fi network (repeater mode) or via USB tethering from a smartphone — giving you flexibility in choosing the internet source depending on the situation.
VPN and traffic encryption
Slate 7 Pro is built on a powerful quad-core processor running at 2.0 GHz, delivering some of the highest VPN speeds among compact routers on the market. The device supports WireGuard (up to 1100 Mbps) and OpenVPN with DCO support (up to 1000 Mbps). Once a VPN service is configured, all traffic from every device on the network automatically passes through the encrypted tunnel — without installing a separate client on each device. For the best compatibility, speed and privacy protection we recommend GemiGuard VPN.
Deep packet inspection (DPI) and VPN obfuscation
Slate 7 Pro uses deep packet inspection (DPI) technology to proactively detect and block malicious traffic — phishing and fraudulent resources and malware — building solid protection for the entire local network. Beyond automatic protection, granular manual control is available: rules for specific applications, domains or IP addresses. The device also features built-in VPN obfuscation that masks the characteristic signatures of VPN traffic. This reduces the risk of throttling, blocking or network restrictions and helps maintain a stable encrypted connection even on networks with strict controls.
2.8″ touchscreen
A distinctive feature of the Slate 7 Pro is its built-in 2.8″ touchscreen, which gives convenient access to the router’s core functions without logging into the web admin panel. The screen shows the current VPN connection status with the ability to turn the VPN on and off, switch between configured VPN profiles, a QR code for quickly connecting to the Wi-Fi network, as well as indicators for speed, number of clients and internet connection status. This is especially handy when you need to quickly share network access with other users or check the connection status without any extra steps.
Power and portability
Slate 7 Pro is powered over USB Type-C with PD (Power Delivery) support — compatible with 5 V / 3 A, 9 V / 3 A and 12 V / 2.5 A power sources. Power consumption is under 20 W without a USB load. The device also runs from a power bank, so you can use it away from home or the office — in a café, a coworking space or anywhere else without constant access to a power outlet. The box includes US, EU, UK and AU plug converters, so the router is ready to travel straight out of the box.
Privacy and cybersecurity with GemiGuard Mirage
For the Slate 7 Pro, the GemiGuard Mirage package is available — GemiGuard’s software solution for improving the privacy, anonymity and cybersecurity of GL.iNet devices. Mirage for the GL-BE10000 includes: BSSID randomization, MAC address randomization, automatic system-log wiping, clearing the history of connected Wi-Fi clients, hardened encrypted DNS and other security improvements. Since the Slate 7 Pro has no cellular modem, IMEI randomization does not apply to it. These features significantly reduce the device’s digital footprint and protect user privacy.
Slate 7 Pro vs GL.iNet Slate 7 (GL-BE3600) — which model to choose?
Customers often compare these two models. The Slate 7 is the more compact and affordable dual-band option (2.4 + 5 GHz) with a real-world WireGuard speed of around 450 Mbps, which is enough for most travel scenarios. The Slate 7 Pro adds a third 6 GHz band, a larger 2.8″ touchscreen, significantly higher VPN speed (up to 1100 Mbps WireGuard vs ~450 Mbps on the Slate 7), a more powerful quad-core 2.0 GHz processor, deep packet inspection (DPI) and VPN obfuscation, plus a USB 3.0 Type-C port. If you need a light and inexpensive VPN router for travel, the Slate 7 is an excellent choice. If your priority is maximum VPN speed, tri-band Wi-Fi with 6 GHz and advanced DPI protection, the Slate 7 Pro is the one to pick. Network features and protection
Slate 7 Pro supports WPA3 encryption, encrypted DNS (DNS over TLS), IPv4 and IPv6 protocols, and a built-in firewall with port forwarding, open ports and DMZ. The device is equipped with one WAN and one LAN 2.5G Ethernet port (100/1000/2500 Mbps), a USB 3.0 Type-C port for external drives and two external antennas. Multi-WAN internet access with load balancing and failover, a drop-in gateway mode, and ad blocking via AdGuard are all available. The router works in several modes — classic router, access point (AP), wireless or wired bridge — allowing it to be integrated into an existing network.
