VPN for the whole network without replacing the router

A regular VPN has to be installed separately on every phone, laptop or computer. But Smart TVs, gaming consoles, media streamers, NAS units, work devices and a lot of other hardware often lack proper VPN support. The Brume 3 solves this at the network gateway level. The VPN is enabled once — and the required network traffic can travel through a secure tunnel. This is especially convenient if you already have a good Wi-Fi router and don’t want to replace it. WireGuard up to 1100 Mbps and OpenVPN-DCO up to 1000 Mbps

The Brume 3 is a far more powerful successor to the Brume 2. It is built on a MediaTek Quad-core @ 2.0GHz, with 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and 8 GB of eMMC storage. For the buyer this means one simple thing: the Brume 3 is suited not only to basic VPN protection, but also to scenarios where high speed matters — working with files, remote network access, connecting to a NAS, secure work with several devices at once. WireGuard supports speeds up to 1100 Mbps, and OpenVPN with DCO support up to 1000 Mbps. This is the main reason to choose the Brume 3 if you need not just a compact VPN gateway, but a fast wired gateway with plenty of performance headroom.

Three 2.5 Gbps ports

The Brume 3 has three high-speed 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports: one WAN and two LAN. This is useful if you have a fast internet plan, a NAS, a media server, a workstation, a main router with a 2.5G port or other equipment that needs a stable wired connection without being capped at 1 Gbps. Unlike the Brume 2, where the LAN port is limited to 1 Gbps, the Brume 3 gives a full 2.5G wired foundation for a modern network.

Multi-WAN, backup internet and load balancing

The Brume 3 supports Multi-WAN: the LAN1 port can be switched to a second WAN mode. This lets you connect two internet links — for example a main provider and a backup link. If the main internet stops working, the network can switch to the backup link. Multi-WAN can also be used to balance the load across several connections. This is useful for a small office, a work network, a NAS, a media server or scenarios where the internet needs to stay as stable as possible.

DPI protection and traffic visibility

The Brume 3 has a built-in DPI system — Deep Packet Inspection. It helps you see which applications and devices are using traffic, and makes it easier to find excessive or suspicious load on the network. In the web interface you can view real-time traffic statistics and up to 7 days of history. This is useful when you need to understand which device is hogging the channel, what is creating load, or why the network is running slower. DPI is also used for protection: the Brume 3 can automatically filter dangerous or unwanted sites, and lets you create your own blocking rules by application, domain or IP address.

SQM and QoS for stable performance under load

When the channel is fully loaded, an ordinary network often starts to “lag”: latency rises, video calls freeze, online games become unstable and web pages open more slowly. The Brume 3 supports SQM — Smart Queue Management. This feature helps reduce bufferbloat and keep latency lower even when the internet connection is being heavily used. Dynamic QoS is also available, which can prioritise important traffic — for example video conferences, online games or work connections — over background downloads.

VPN Obfuscation — masking VPN traffic

The Brume 3 supports VPN Obfuscation — masking VPN traffic for more demanding network conditions. Regular VPN traffic is sometimes easily detected by DPI systems and can be blocked or throttled on networks with strict filtering. Obfuscation helps hide the tell-tale signs of a VPN connection so the link stays more stable. This matters for users who need reliable VPN access across different networks: at home, in the office, on a business trip or when connecting to networks with aggressive traffic filtering.

A wired gateway in front of your existing Wi-Fi router

The Brume 3 is a wired VPN gateway. Its job is to manage traffic between your network, your main router, your provider, the VPN and backup internet links. This format is ideal if your Wi-Fi is already set up on another router or mesh system, but you need a separate, powerful gateway for VPN, DPI, Multi-WAN and OpenWrt control.

USB 3.0 Type-C for a modem or storage

In addition to a separate USB Type-C power port, the Brume 3 has a second USB Type-C data port — USB 3.0. You can connect an external drive or a compatible /4G/5G USB modem to it. This opens up two practical scenarios: simple network storage or an extra mobile internet link for redundancy. The USB 3.0 Type-C port can deliver up to 5V / 2A for connected peripherals.

Low power draw and USB Type-C power

The Brume 3 is powered via USB Type-C from 5V / 3A and draws less than 2.8 W. For the buyer this means one simple advantage: the gateway is easy to power from a quality USB-C adapter, a UPS or backup power during outages. If your main internet, fibre line, ONU, Starlink or other network equipment also has backup power, the Brume 3 can keep providing VPN protection and network control without interruption.

More control over your network

The Brume 3 runs on OpenWrt 21.02 with Linux kernel 5.4.281 and a convenient GL.iNet web interface. For the ordinary user this means easier setup of VPN, Multi-WAN, DPI, QoS and basic network functions. For the advanced user — access to OpenWrt packages, custom scripts and deeper network configuration. The Brume 3 can be used as a fast VPN gateway, a VPN server for remote access, a system-wide ad blocker, a light NAS with external storage or a compact platform for lab experiments.

GemiGuard Mirage

The GemiGuard Mirage package is available for the Brume 3 — a software solution to enhance privacy, anonymity and cybersecurity on GL.iNet devices. Installed on request. GemiGuard Mirage wipes local log files, locally stored connection history and randomises MAC network identifiers to reduce long-term device tracking. DNS queries and their metadata are encrypted. The result is fewer local technical traces on the gateway itself.
